Welcome to Belgium-HF web site
Congestive Heart Failure affects some 100.000 and 200.000 people in Belgium with a severe impact on their quality of life. Statistics have shown that 40% of patients discharged from hospital are expected to be re-hospitalised within 6 months.
BELGIUM-HF, which stands for Better Efficacity in Lowering Events by General practitioner's Intervention Using remote Monitoring in Heart Failure, aims to cut back this re-hospitalisation rate through an innovative monitoring system for HF patients, with the assistance of general practitioners. The combination of GPs and telemedicine makes this a unique, ambitious clinical trial from both the Belgium and the European perspectives.
BELGIUM-HF is the result of a narrow collaboration between the SSMG (Belgian Society of General Practitioners), the Brussels Heart Center of Clinique St-Jean, the Biostatistic Unit of the University of Louvain, Touring, Vitalsys and Belgacom Mobile. The key to the success of this project is the pooled expertise from the field of medicine, cardiology, people assistance, telemedicine and telecommunication technologies.
To date, BELGIUM-HF has been funded by the Brussels Region, Touring and Belgacom.
Although the private part of this site is limited to general practitioners and cardiologists, you can request additional information via the contact sheet section of this web site.
